India, July 2007 :- The Himalayan Club, one of the oldest Mountaineering Clubs in
the world has organized a joint expedition to Chong Kumdan 2 (CK2) towering 7,004
meters - 22,700 ft. This expedition starts from Delhi on 23rd July 2007 and will
conclude by 5th September 2007.

The strong team of five Indians and five Americans will attempt the remote and
inaccessible Chong Kumdan 2 peak, which is one of the few 7,000 meter peaks in the
Indian Himalaya which has remained unclimbed. CK2 is located close to Aksai - Chin
area of Jammu & Kashmir. The duration of this expedition is approximately 45 days.

The approach to this remote peak is from the Nubra Valley, which lies in the North
of famous Khardungla pass, which is the second highest motorable pass in the world.
This region is sandwiched between Pakistan occupied Kashmir on the North West and
the Aksai Chin area on the North East. The approach to the mountain is along the
historic \"silk route\" to Yarkhand over the famous Saser La (pass). The route was
known as the \"Skeleton\'s trail\". The Chong Kumdan glaciers feed the notorious \"
Shyok\" - the river of death.

This international expedition had to obtain a special permission from our defence
ministry since this location is close to the line of control and international
boundary. The area is strategically very important for the Indian military.

Mr Divyesh Muni, the Hon. Sect. of the Himalayan Club, Mumbai, will lead this
expedition along with Mr. Don Goodman from U.S. The other members of the team are
Mr. Rajesh Gadgil, Mr Shripad Sapkal, Mr. Nikunj Vora, Ms. Vineeta Muni.
Mr.Christopher Alan Robertson, Mr. Juan Esteban Lira, Mr. Marlin Geist, Ms. Natala
Goodman.

All the members of this Indian - U.S. team are experienced mountaineers, who have
successfully completed many national and international expeditions and have scaled
difficult peaks in Himalayan Mountain ranges. This expedition in the remote region
of the Himalaya will open new gates and provide new opportunities for mountaineers
and climbers all over the world.
